Why Spay or Neuter Your Pet?
Every year, millions of unwanted dogs and cats, including puppies and kittens, are euthanized due to high population numbers. Spaying and neutering prevents unwanted litters and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.
Spaying female dogs and cats eliminates heat cycles and reduces the chance of serious uterine infections and mammary cancer. Neutering male dogs and cats reduces the breeding instinct which can result in them being less inclined to roam the neighborhood, may decrease the desire to mark their territory, may have a calming effect, and can decrease the risk of prostate and testicular cancer.
This procedure has no effect on a pet's intelligence or ability to learn, play, work or hunt. Most pets tend to be better behaved following the surgical procedure, making them more desirable companions.
Wright Animal Hospital also offers surgical laser as an option for spay and neuter procedures. This option reduces pain, bleeding, swelling and promotes speedy healing.
